Accidental Death Life Insurance

Accidental death coverage is a limited life insurance that covers the insured when upon death and/or dismemberment due to an accident. In order for the insured to be covered they must die from a cause that is "purely accidental". On some policies the accidental death coverage is packaged with an accidental dismemberment component (i.e. loss of limbs, eyes, and/or hearing).

Accidental death and AD&D (accidental death and dismemberment) policies should be purchased with extreme caution. The reason is simple; they very rarely pay a death or dismemberment claim. Accidental policies usually contain numerous exclusions and restrictions. Also, if the insured "contributed" to their death in any way coverage is usually not provided.
